1.4 million wearable school uniforms are thrown away each year in the UK, and parents in the south are the worst offenders, making up almost half of this. Because uniforms are now largely polyester, that’s the equivalent of 157 tonnes of plastic the size of Stonehenge going into landfill or incinerators every year.
Extending the lifespan of clothes by just three months could result in a 10% reduction in carbon emissions from manufacturing and transport, water and waste footprint.
We do not charge for uniform, but please make a donation if you can.
