Saturday 29 November saw the Hub buzzing with life for our “Celebrating Hand-in-Hand” event. This was the first time since the closure back in March that we were able to invite members of the public into the newly renovated space and we were thrilled to see so many new and familiar faces. Visitors were treated to a relaxing hand massage courtesy of A Touch of Gentleness and to stunning henna hand designs by members of the International Women’s Group. They were also invited to add their handprint to our “Lend-A-Hand” wall with messages of support for others and for the planet over the festive season.
Hope & Anger Singers delighted the crowd with songs of welcome and togetherness, including the debut of “Everybody’s Seaford” – an original theme song for the newly formed local group. Hanging proudly above the singers and audience was a wonderful, colourful SEAFORD banner created from used tent and hang-glider materials by the talented Liz Bur.
As ever, delicious cakes and biscuits baked by our volunteers were on offer and went down a treat with a cuppa.
However, the icing on the cake was the official launch of our new partnership with Seahaven Baby Bank, who now have a permanent home in our underground space. Beautiful, high quality preloved toys, clothes and equipment offered a great start to Christmas shopping for little ones, reducing waste and saving money – a win-win for our visitors and for the Earth! Children and adults alike loved the new space, staying to browse and play. Going forward, the Baby Bank, staffed by Helen and her incredibly hardworking team of volunteers will be available during usual Hub opening hours on Thursdays & Saturdays.
We look forward to welcoming visitors back into the Hub regularly in the New Year. From January we will be open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings between 10.00-11.30am.
